Potlatch names Covey Chairman Potlatch Corporation’s Board of Directors elected Michael J. Covey, current President and Chief Executive Officer, to Chairman of the Board. Covey succeeds L. Pendleton Siegel, who retired. Covey joined Potlatch in February 2006 as President, CEO, and a member of the Board. Prior to that, he spent 23 years with Plum Creek Timber Company. In his new role, he will serve as Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.
New Holland Names Sheehan VP New Holland Construction named Terry Sheehan vice president, North America. Sheehan is responsible for leading sales and marketing operations for the New Holland Construction brand. Sheehan joins New Holland from Komatsu, where he was president of the Komatsu Equipment Company dealership in Salt Lake City, serving Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming.
Clyde Schurman Passes Away at 92 Clyde Laverne Schurman, founder of Schurman Machine Works, Inc., passed away in Woodland, Wash., on December 10. He was 92. Clyde was born September 10, 1914. His father was a blacksmith who taught him how to work on machinery. One of the most revolutionary product ideas to come out of Schurman Machine was the application and use of thinkerf saws on its edgers and gangs. Clyde sold Schurman Machine Works to USNR in 1975, which continued to operate out of his original building in Woodland until 1982.
Stimson Lumber Graders Earn Award In October, Western Wood Products Associated acknowledged the lumber grading skills at Stimson Lumber Mill in Clatskanie. The graders who received the “Hi-Q” award are: Stan Prouty, Steve Coleman, Randy Kallio, and Steve Strand. They received the award for achieving a 95 percent better accuracy rating than in 2005. The Clatskanie Stimson mill is no newcomer to the “Hi-Q” award, having received many over the years.
Cat Branded Telehandlers Delivered In November, the first telehandlers manufactured by JLGIndustries, Inc., and branded with the Caterpillar® name, were delivered to Cashman Equipment, the Caterpillar dealer based in North Las Vegas, Nev. “This is a big day for Caterpillar and JLG,” said Scott Cooper, Caterpillar Marketing Manager for the telehandler alliance group of North and South America. “The new telehandlers are tailored to the needs of contractors in North America, and they are fully supported by Caterpillar — parts inventory, service, warranties, and Cat Financial programs. These machines are even shipping ahead of schedule.” New Faces at OFRI Three new directors have been appointed to three-year terms at Oregon Forest Resources Institute. They include: Gary Springer, owner of Springer Logging in Corvallis; Mike Moskovitz, Weyerhaeuser regional public affairs manager; and Steve Woodard, small woodland owner in Cottage Grove.
New Manager at Bauman Sawmill Sam Dickey is the new manager at Weyerhaeuser’s Bauman and Santiam sawmills in Lebanon, Ore. Dickey replaces Don Lenhart, who recently retired. The Santiam sawmill is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in 2008.
