Dear Colleagues:
As co-chairs of the Ninth Biennial Wood Residue Conference, we would like to welcome attendees to what will be a jam packed two-and-a-half days of informative sessions, along with plenty of opportunities for informal networking with colleagues.
An added bonus to this year’s conference is the Annual General Meeting of the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC). We are proud to be associated with the WPAC which forms such a critical part of Canada’s wood industry.
In spite of some difficult years, the forest industry is starting to recover, and remains a very vital part of the Canadian economy. Though there may be some hurdles ahead for the industry, we need to remember that the $57 billion-a-year Canadian forest products industry is still one of Canada’s largest employers, operating in hundreds of communities and providing 240,000 direct jobs across the country—and it has a bright future.
And an increasing large part of our bright future is going to involve the efficient and effective use of residual wood, at the mill level and out in the bush.
With the help of a top group of speakers from Europe, the U.S. and across Canada, this year’s Wood Residue Conference will look at the current uses for residual wood, as well as explore new business ventures that will help the industry more fully tap into the economic opportunities of this resource. Our speakers will be covering important areas such as government policy for bioenergy, and we’ll get into the nitty-gritty of what makes for a successful residual wood project, with plenty of examples from the people putting together and operating these plants.
In addition to speakers and presentations, the conference will also feature the popular Suppliers Showcase, with products and services from a wide group of companies involved in our industry.
As you’ll hear from these companies and our speakers, there is an exciting future for residual wood. Our goal with the Wood Residue Conference is to present the current and future pellet making and other residual wood opportunities so that the industry can make the best use of this fibre, and achieve maximum revenue from a tremendous, still under-utilized, resource that can deliver significant profits to your bottom line.
Enjoy the conference!
