 Owren Yarding Systems

The Owren 400, from Owren Yarding Systems Ltd, is a hydrostatically driven cable crane for uphill, downhill and flat terrain logging. The maximum reach, when using the running skyline system, is 350 metres. When using a standing system, maximum reach is 500 metres. Hydrostatic drive eliminates the need for clutches or brakes and offers 100 per cent control of the line with speeds from zero to 23 feet per second, while the carriage reels 100 feet of drop line in or out. It offers the capability for intermediate supports (or multispanning) with the running skyline system and has a 33.5' tower and a pulling capacity of 13,230 lbs. Different types of carriages may be used. With a three section drum type carriage, the main line enters on the upper side of the lefthand drum section, the slack pulling line enters on the lower side of the right hand section and the hoist line is reeled on the middle drum section. Powered by a 180hp, six cylinder Deutz, turbo diesel water-cooled engine, the Owren 400 is electro hydraulically controlled by a cable and two joysticks placed on the portable, external operating desk. The cost efficient system is environmentally friendly, requires minimal setup time and yields high production, the company says. The extremely hard sheaves in the blocks give long life to the ropes.
