Blount and Cat Sign Agreements
Blount International Inc has signed worldwide marketing and supply
agreements with Caterpillar Inc that will expand the line of purpose-built
forestry equipment now available to the dealers and customers of Blount’s
Forestry and Industrial Equipment Division (FIED). The long-term
agreements with Caterpillar leverage both companies’ capabilities in
specific areas of the forestry business and expand the Prentice brand of
track feller bunchers and Hydro-Ax brand of wheel feller bunchers already
distributed by Blount-FIED dealers. The agreements strengthen Blount’s
position in the forest industry in North America, said Blount’s CEO Jim
Osterman in a press release, and gives Blount-FIED expanded opportunities
in worldwide forestry markets. The agreements call for Blount and
Caterpillar to make available their current product offerings under a dual
distribution model. Blount will continue to sell Blount branded products
through its dealer network, while Caterpillar dealers will sell
Cat-powered products under the Timberking brand name. Production of
equipment will continue at both Blount and Caterpillar facilities, with
each company focusing on products in their core lines. Blount will be
solely responsible for marketing both lines, as well as providing product
support to both dealer organizations. Blount expects the full line of
Blount and Timberking products to be available at dealerships worldwide
beginning later this year. www.blount.com

CAE’s ACTI-PLATE Debarking Action
CAE, now Carmanah Design and Manufacturing Inc, offers the new
ACTI-PLATETM system that instantly modifies the aggressiveness of
the debarker when dealing with changing wood characteristics. The ACTI-PLATETM
development allows the plates between the rotors to be instantly inserted
or removed from the debarking chamber during the process, with no need for
downtime to bolt or unbolt the plates, the company says. The ACTI-PLATETM
consists of modular assemblies installed at intervals along the length of
the debarker between rotors. The assemblies contain industrial air
actuators that, when energized, drive the debarking plate into the chamber
directly in the path of the log flow, allowing the operator the
flexibility to increase or decrease mechanical debarking action on a
load-by-load basis.
