Manitoba's second biennial Swan Valley
Forestry Exhibition is fast approaching!
It is expected to draw 70 exhibitors and 4000 attendees from logging and forestry personnel in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,
Ontario and beyond. Held in the woods in the Duck Mountain Provincial Forest, one of the main features of Manitoba's forestry show is the live action demonstrations of felling, processing, skidding, forwarding and portable sawmilling around a 5 km roadway.
In addition to the live demonstrations and outdoor dis-plays, large tents hold up to 50 exhibitors that require power and a covered exhibit area. Glenda Peyton, project manager for the Swan Valley Forestry Exhibition maintains that "the show is far more than an exhibition for the logging industry alone. This show is about public education as well" and she encourages the public to visit the exhibition and "see first hand how forestry contributes to the economy of Manitoba in an environmentally sound and
sustainable manner." Mrs. Peyton also added that "This exhibition is put on entirely by vol-unteers who care about the forest industry and it's role in providing quality jobs to the Swan River community". The show is run on a non-profit basis and any funds left over are designated for further development of the site as a forestry education centre.
