New Chainsaw Protection Pants from PFANNER

PFANNER Tough Gear Canada Ltd is introducing its latest chainsaw protection pants to the Canadian market. The pants are said to be safer and more comfortable for tough work, such as out in the bush.

The new STRETCH-AIR Quick-Stop Protection Pants offer freedom of movement through a stretchable and tear-resistant fabric, in combination with revolutionary chainsaw protection which will set new standards regarding safety, comfort and durability, says the company. The company received WCB approval in February 2007.

Instead of using Kevlar fibres for chainsaw protection, PFANNER uses a mixture of Dynema (well known as a component in fishing lines) in combination with Polyamide to offer protection from serious injuries.

PFANNER products have been developed for use in extreme conditions and feature the latest materials and accessories. The products have been tested in the forest industry and by tree care professionals to gain valuable and constructive feedback to constantly improve their quality and functionality, says the company.

InterSaw joins forces with LOGFOR forestry show

Master Promotions Ltd has announced that InterSaw, Canada’s Sawmilling Show, will be co-locating with LOGFOR, the National Logging & Forestry Show. Both events will be held at Expo Cité in Quebec City on September 6-8, 2007.

The co-locating of the two shows will make for a comprehensive industry event, showcasing the evolution of the forestry process from harvesting though to processing at the mill. Combining the two events will allow for a larger audience of buyers and decision-makers. Moreover, with the increased emphasis on fibre supply chain management, it will serve to educate attendees about the integrated nature of the forest industry, says show manager Mark Cusack.

“Sawmills are extremely important factors in decisions that relate to log quality, and cut-to-length,” says Cusack. “Putting all the players together under one roof can only be viewed as positive.

“The economic downturn in the sawmilling industry was a determining factor in this decision,” he adds. “Both InterSaw and LOGFOR have strong reputations in the industry and combining the two under one roof will create a comprehensive forestry event that will attract a diverse and stronger audience. It’s a natural fit.”

Booth information for InterSaw or LOGFOR is available from show manager Mark Cusack, toll free at 1-888-454-7469 or by email mcusack@masterpromotions.ca or online at www.masterpromotions.ca.

Luftman ExTe safely secures loads

The Luftman ExTe is designed for safely transporting round and sawn timber. Automatic post-tensioning holds the timber in position even when the load settles during transport. Each tensioner is tested to at least 400 kg and is guaranteed to meet or exceed legal requirements.

The Luftman ExTe has unlimited post tensioning for increased safety. It’s easy to maintain, says the company, and the drum can be replaced with different sizes using basic tools. Weighing only 14.5 kg, it requires minimal space and is easy to install either on the outside of the frame or directly on the bunk.

Kesla and Sumitomo to develop harvesters

Kesla Oyj and Sumitomo (SHI) Construction Machinery Co, Ltd have entered into an agreement to develop excavator-based harvesters for timber harvesting.

The partnership brings together Sumitomo’s strong background in excavators and Kesla’s strong background in forestry equipment. The companies see the harvesters as being ideal for fast developing mechanized harvesting markets worldwide. And the companies say the excavator based harvesters will be competitive with purpose-built harvesters in both quality and price. Their plan is to begin marketing and sales in Japan and later expand to the world market.
