RK Haskew & Co
The Hasko FSM MatchMaster from RK Haskew & Company utilizes advanced
technology to clear a jam anywhere in the
machine and reset to exact position in one minute or less. The five-head,
6"x3" true matcher, with directly opposed sideheads, offers
hydraulic feed rolls typically used for flooring and S4S moulding up to
500 lineal feet per minute. Hardwood strip flooring manufacturers are able
to produce more than 200,000 lineal feet per shift of tongue and grooved
material with a relief cut on the bottom side, processing material as
short as 10 inches. Other features include cutterheads up to 16-knife,
built-in top and bottom jointers (optional for sides), PLC control logic
and electronic motor braking, touch screen operator console, eight
10" diameter hydraulic feed rolls and hydraulic and pneumatic upper
section and left sidehead hoisting. The 22,500-lb machine (not including
the hydraulic unit) is built for endurance, the company says. Typical
horsepowers are: 50 hp top, 30 hp bottom, 30 hp left side, 25 hp right
side, 20 hp second top and 75 hp hydraulic unit. Reader Service Card #960
Gilbert Tech Inc
The unique "pull through" modular design of the Gilbert Tech
modular planer
is based on European technology that reduces downtime, increases planer
flexibility and productivity and improves the surface quality of standard
lumber, producing smooth wood finishes without waving. The design also
provides stability, ease of maintenance and constant traction and allows
for high feed rates of up to 3,000 fpm (916 mpm) with most softwood and
hardwood lumber, the company says. Modular construction allows for fast
replacement of all components and constant access to the wood. Other
features include cantilever frame-cylinder and heads with Hydrogrip
collars, reliable electric motors and timing belts, adjustable
foot-presser system and high precision case bearings for improved lumber
finish. Reader Service Card #961
Newman Whitney
An industry leader in the development of planing systems for more than 90
years, Newman Whitney has developed the PM-1600 modular, high-speed,
four-sided planer designed to produce a high quality
finish on lumber ranging in size from 1"x2" to 6"x15".
An electrically driven planer with computer controlled roll speed
synchronization, cutterhead positioning, optimized speed control and touch
screen operator interface, the PM-1600 comes standard with the company's
Quick Change Head (QCH) modular assembly, allowing for a variety of
tooling. It is capable of feed speeds of up to 3,000 fpm. The PM-1600 is
available with an inboard or outboard profiler, an additional mid-roll to
make it an eight-roll machine and a high quality finish module to make it
a six-head model. The heavy-duty four-sided planer/matcher, with 16"
diameter steel feed rolls, is built to last in a demanding environment,
the company says, without sacrificing production or quality. Newman
Whitney has led the industry with innovations such as Quietcut helical
carbide cutterheads, quick-change cutterheads, computer diagnostics,
electric and/or pneumatic feed works and fabricated steel frames. Reader

Weinig Group/Waco
The Waco Maxi enables the planing and/or moulding of 15,000 to 40,000
cubic metres of wood per year in a one-shift operation, offering speed,
durability and high surface quality, the company says. Available with feed
speeds up to 1,000 fpm (350 mpm) and from
two to 12 spindles, the Maxi can handle cross sections of up to 8"x11
3/4" (200x300mm) and is widely used to produce paneling, flooring and
four-side planed or profiled material. The modular system allows
configurations to match requirements for an optimum economic solution. At
the heart of the design is the heavy-duty hydraulic feed system with
patented double worm gears. The controls are easily accessible and
features for reducing set up time allow for quick resetting of the
machine. The Maxi offers a spindle speed of 6,000 rpm together with an
automated jointing system. Other features include heavy cast frames that
are low in vibration, a reliable feed system, heavy-duty drive systems
through a frequency inverter, outboard bearings with hydraulic locking,
spindles manufactured to an accuracy of 0.003 mm and hardened tables. The
Waco Solid complements the Maxi and offers many of the same features and
component parts, but with certain limitations to fit a niche market within
the woodworking industry. It features a feed speed of up to 490 fpm (150
mpm). Accessories include the OptiControl and the OptiControl-LogoPac
measuring systems that offer precise measuring through the 20-to-1
magnified viewer scope. Various types of tool systems can be measured,
including solid cutters, insert knives, reversible-tip tools and saw
blades. Waco cutterheads for planing and moulding offer precision for
high-speed machine demands. The Waco MTS system tool cleaner cleans tools
of resin and other debris, while the Weinig Rondamat grinder keeps planer
and moulder knives sharp The Waco company is a member of the Weinig Group.
