April 2005 - The Logging and Sawmilling Journal Alberta’s Top Logging Contractors Welcome to Logging & Sawmilling Journal’s list of Alberta’s top logging contractors by volume. Alberta provides a dynamic and attractive logging business environment as demonstrated by the number of relatively young contractors offering their services to the province’s forest companies. With the number of sawmills modernizing, pulp mills trying new ideas such as in-the-woods chipping, and OSB plants expanding operations, the province’s forestry sector continues to offer business opportunities for enterprising loggers. Changes to this list from the previous contractors list published in 2003 show that forest companies are willing to consider hiring new contractors that offer the right mix of productivity and efficiency to meet their needs. The companies are also willing to reward longstanding contractors with extra volume. To develop this list, Logging & Sawmilling Journal contacted major forestry equipment dealers in Alberta for their suggestions as to who should be considered based on volume harvested. We would like to acknowledge the assistance of Brandt Tractor and Strongco Equipment. All contractors on this list were contacted and participation was voluntary. While we have done our best to identify those contractors meeting the volume criteria, it is possible that we may have inadvertently missed someone. If you know of someone who should be on the next list, please contact our office at (604) 990-9970.
