TOP CONTRACTORS
Alberta’s Top 15 Logging Contractors 2003
Welcome to Logging & Sawmilling Journal’s ongoing series featuring Canada’s top logging contractors.
This month we take a closer look at Alberta, with a list of its Top 15 Logging Contractors. Our previous two lists of Alberta contractors have put the Top 10 in the spotlight, but this year we have expanded the list to match the high level of reader interest.
Like previous top contractor lists, this
one is based on harvested volumes—no other criteria were used in the
ranking of the companies. In the case of this list, the volumes are based
on the wood harvested in the year or season of 2002.
For anyone interested in making comparisons, previous listings of
Alberta’s top logging contractors ran in the October 2000 and November
2001 issues of Logging & Sawmilling Journal. These past issues, and the
lists, can be viewed at our web site at
www.forestnet.com
The lists change over time as contractors see fluctuations in their volumes from one year to the next. Reasons for fluctuations include a myriad of circumstances, some of the main ones being: winning and losing cutting rights, partial sell-offs, more salvage, consolidations and retirements.
As in the past, we have tried to make this list as complete as possible, although there remains a small number of contractors who do not wish to participate. And, as a result of boosting the list to the top 15, there is a slightly increased chance that a company may have been overlooked. Again, we are dedicated to making these lists as complete as possible. If you know of a company that should be included next time, please get in touch with us.
Future issues of the magazine will
continue to update readers on other regional and provincial lists of top
logging contractors. So stay tuned.
